Traditional leader lauds NUJ

The Kanwan Katsina, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has commended the Katsina state council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for renovating a mosque in the secretariat of the council.

Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, who is also the District Head of Ketare made the commendation while commissioning the mosque shortly after observing Asr Prayer at the mosque, over the weekend.

Similarly the Nigeria Union of Journalists Katsina state Council constructed  sporting facilities at the secretariat and organised an award night in Honour of the Katsina state governor Aminu Bello Masari.

The sporting facilities commissioned include Badminton court, Table tennis and snooker among others.

The Kanwan Katsina who is the chairman of the occasion emphasized that the sporting facilities will serve as an avenue for Journalists to hangout for recreational activities and exchange of ideas while the mosque will assist them in observing five daily prayers.

Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara called on journalists to patronize the center and for the communities to set up mosque committee that will ensure its kept clean at all times and engage in five daily prayers.

The traditional ruler while congratulating his governor of Katsina state for receiving the award also acknowledged the efforts and contributions by the  state government enjoyed by working journalist in the state.

He called on the state government to assist the NUJ to renovate the Guest house allocated by the state government to ease accommodation challenges of working journalists who are visiting Katsina from various parts of Nigeria.

Meanwhile , NUJ President, Chris Isuguzo later decorated Kanwan Katsina, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara with a badge, making him a patronof Katsina NUJ.

Others who graced the occasion includes the Secretary to the government of Katsina State, NUJ President , the Durbin Katsina and other important dignitaries from within and out the state.
