Yuletide: Plateau CP warns officers against taking alcohol during operations

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, has warned officers deployed to volatile areas during Christmas celebrations against alcohol consumption while on duty.
The officers were deployed to crisis areas including Mangu, Bokkos, Barikin Ladi Riyom and Bassa local government areas of the state.
The CP, who gave the warning while addressing the officers before the deployment at the headquarters of the command on Saturday, further urged them to be professional and avoid unethical practices that could tarnish their image and the command’s during the operation.
According to him, the deployment is part of the command’s efforts to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations, in the areas and the state at large.
He said, “Keep away from alcohol. Keep yourselves away from it for this period of the operation. In those days, what made people feared police was because of the way they behaved. Don’t go for this assignment and start mingle with people any how. I am appealing to you to behave professionally. Let us do this in the interest of the state.”
The CP further disclosed that during due consultation with his management team and critical stakeholders within the state, the command placed restrictions on the following activities from 23rd December 2024 to 3rd January, 2025: night grazing by herders, night farming by farmers, late night operation of beer parlours, night mining activities and operation of commercial motorcycles (Okada).
“All these restrictions are to be in force between the hours of 06:00pm to 06:00am daily.
“There will be a ban on the activities of commercial tricycles also known as ‘Keke Napep’ within the Jos Bukuru Metropolis on 25th to 26th December, 2024 and on the 1st of January, 2025. The total ban on the activities of commercial motorcycles still remains in force.
“The Command has made massive deployments to major flashpoints within the state, and is also working in synergy with the military, other security agencies within the state and members of our security help groups to ensure that the security of our state and borders is guaranteed throughout this festive period.
“We call on the good people of Plateau State to cooperate with the police and other security agencies in ensuring that these restrictions are obeyed, for the good of all,” the command added.
