The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Debo Edward Ogundoyin, has said that effective collaboration and synergy amongst security agencies in Oyo State and beyond, would create a condition of better service to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria at large. He made the assertion during the Oyo State House Committee members’ courtesy call on the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, at the Division’s Headquarters in Ibadan, on 23 May, 2024.
The Chairman, Oyo State House Committee on Security and Strategy, Hon Dawood Olalere, who represented the Speaker, said the Committee has been touring various security agencies in the state, hence the visit to 2 Division NA. He noted that the visit was aimed at familiarising with the NA and other security agencies in Oyo State in a bid to fostering a good working relationship and to find lasting solution to the rising security issues in the state.
“Oyo State, is one of the safest states in Nigeria; and this could not have been possible without the support of the NA in collaboration with other security agencies, operating under the state security outfit – OPERATION BURST.
In his remarks, the GOC 2 Division, appreciated the Hon Speaker and other members of the team for their priceless sacrifices towards maintaining peace and security in the state. He said the visit was necessary, owing to the high importance the state government places on security. He promised to create more opportunities for further discussions, and to sustain the already existing good relationship.
The Committee was briefed on the security situation within 2 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), with details of what the Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, are doing to maintain peace within the AOR.
During a brief interactive session, the Special Assistant to the Speaker on media, sought to know if there were any hot line with which troops of 2 Division could be reached in crisis situations.
In a response, Major General Onubogu, noted that the state has OPERATION BURST as a combined security outfit, which comprise of 2 Division troops and other security agencies; with the task to ensure peace and security in the state. He said that information communicated to them has as well reached 2 Division and will be well attended to. The GOC further urged traditional rulers within the Division’s AOR to be ambassadors of peace; and encouraged the people to give out useful information promptly, which will assist security agencies in the state to achieve the desired objective.
The visit was climaxed with exchange of souvenirs between the GOC and the representative of the Speaker and a group photograph.
