The Director, Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme (NAWIS), Brigadier General MS Adamu, held a sensitization lecture for personnel of 2 Division on the activities of NAWIS, at Headquarters (HQ) 2 Division Auditorium, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, on Tuesday, 21 May 2024.
In his lecture titled, “The Upward Review of Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme and Benevolent Fund”, the Director stated that NAWIS is a welfare scheme established by the Nigerian Army (NA) to meet the needs and aspirations of its personnel. He further said that it was designed to provide financial support to soldiers and their families during challenging times of injury or death and other unforeseen circumstances, which could arise while troops carry out their professional responsibilities as military personnel. “The scheme is managed by NA Welfare Limited (NAWL), a subsidiary of NA Holdings Limited”, he said.
He added that, NAWIS offers a range of insurance products, which include life insurance, personal accident insurance, and group personal accident insurance. The scheme is compulsory for all NA personnel, he said; adding that it is funded through monthly contributions drawn from individual personnel salaries. He noted that the benefits of the scheme include financial compensation for injuries or death sustained while on duty, as well as medical and educational benefits for the families of deceased soldiers.
Brigadier General Adamu, further stated that, the scheme also aims at providing financial security for soldiers and their families, and also serves as a means of motivating and boosting their morale to better discharge their professional duties. “It is an important part of the NA’s numerous efforts to ensure the welfare of its personnel and their families are adequate and sustained”, he added.
There was a second lecture titled, ” *Chief of Army Staff’s Personnel Empowerment Loan Scheme* “, which was delivered by the Guest lecturer, Brigadier General I Sule.
