Plateau Crisis: NSCDC Deploys Fresh Agro Rangers Unit To Mangu

To enable farmers return to the farms in crisis hit Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), has deployed more personnel of the Agro-Rangers unit to the area.

NSCDC Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Audi ordered the immediate deployment of the personnel for effective protection of farmers, farmlands, and all agro allied investments in the agrarian communities.

In a statement signed by national the Director Public Relations of the Corps, Olusola Odumosu, Audi while visiting the governor of Plateau state, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos Plateau state, announced the fresh deployment.

The CG who commiserates with governor Mutfwang on the unfortunate attack in Mangu which claimed lives and displaced members of the community, decried the recurring killings in some parts of the state and assured the governor that the NSCDC is ready to synergise with other security agencies to put an end to the crisis in the affected areas.

“Your Excellency, we are in Jos because of the recent killings in Mangu LGA.

“We sympathise with you and the entire people of the affected communities and I want to assure you that we will redouble our effort and synergise with other security agencies to end the crisis.

“I have ordered immediate deployment of more personnel to strengthen security, especially the Agro Rangers unit for the protection of farmers, their farmlands and all agricultural assets”, he said.

Responding, governor Mutfwang appreciated the CG for his visitadding that the importance of the NSCDC Agro Rangers personnel in preventing further farmers and herders clashes cannot be over emphasized

He assured the CG of the state government’s support and cooperation with the NSCDC.

In a related visit to the palace of the Mangu traditional Head, the Mishkagham Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness John Hirse, Audi equally symphatised with the traditional head and the entire community for the loss of lives and property, assuring that the Corps would redouble its efforts by deploying more personnel to flash points in various districts.

He stated that the effort is to help protect farmers and their farmlands to guarantee food security and prevent food shortages which is another form of catastrophe.

He charged the Royal Father to enlighten the good people of the land to report suspicious activities, so that perpetrators of the heinous crime can be brought to justice.

The traditional head thanked the CG for his assurance of more security presence and specifically requested for the intervention of the NSCDC in curbing crimes in the community.

Addressing officers and men of Plateau Command of the NSCDC, Audi said security of lives and property of the people is very sacrosanct.

He charged them to increase intelligence and surveillance in order restore farmers confidence and prevent cases of kidnapping, farmland destruction and other criminal activities perpetrated by hoodlums in the state.
