Army detains ex-soldier selling weapons to Boko Haram

The Nigerian Army said it apprehended a former soldier in Bauchi State on suspicion of supplying weapons to Boko Haram members.

The Army joint task force in a report said its troops apprehended him in Boi, an area situated in the Bogoro Local Government Area (LGA).

While the Army did not reveal the identity of the suspect, it said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been dismissed from 5 Brigade Damasak.

During the arrest, two pistols, two magazines, and eight rounds of 9 mm ammo were recovered from the individual.

“On 18 July 23, troops arrested one suspected gunrunner at Boi in Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State. A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was a dismissed soldier from 5 Bde Damasak. Troops recovered 2 pistols, 2 magazines, and 8 rounds of 9 mm ammo,” part of the report read.

In the report, the army also revealed that on the same day, its troops arrested two suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists’ logistic suppliers at Kukareta Mkt. in Damaturu LGA of Yobe State in another operation.

According to the Army, two mobile phones and the sum of seven thousand two hundred and sixty-five naira were recovered among other sundry items.
