The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 745 senior police officers and the proper placement for five police commissioners.
A statement by PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani said the commission also approved proper placement for a deputy commissioner of police.
The police commissioners affected by the approved proper placement and adjustment of promotion dates are Njoku Eronini, Afolabi Adeniyi, Taiwo Jesubiyi and Ogundele Ayodeji. The confirmation date of Nwonyi Emeka, a DCP, was also adjusted.
According to the statement, the PSC treated 14 appeals, petitions, and nine pending disciplinary matters from dismissed and serving officers.
The decisions were some of the high points of the 18th plenary meeting of the commission, presided over by its acting chairman, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi
The commission promoted two deputy superintendents of police (DSP) to the rank of superintendent of police (SP) and 696 assistant superintendents of police (ASP) to deputy superintendents of police (DSP).
The PSC also revealed that 47 police inspectors were also promoted to unconfirmed assistant superintendents of police (ASP11), and the two newly promoted SPs were Yusuf Bello and Titus Obaji.
The statement said the reduction in rank of four police officers with six others given the punishment of severe reprimand was also approved by the commission. While it reinstated six officers and retired two in public interest, an officer, Emmanuel Eze, was promoted from DCP to CP and he was retired.
The commission reviewed the punishment of reduction in rank of Insp Falade Kayode, exonerated him and restored his rank of ASP 1.
