FCT Polls: Police re-announces restriction of movement

The Federal Capital Territory (FCTPolice Command has again announced the restriction of movement of residents from 8 am to 3 pm during the FCT Area Council Elections scheduled for Saturday, February 12 .

FCT Police Commissioner Babaji Sunday made the revelation in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday.

The Nigerian News Agency reports that the command had announced on Thursday that there would be movement restrictions from 12pm Friday to 4pm Saturday in Abuja.

The Command, however, earlier on Friday relaxed its restriction on movement on election day in the territory, urging residents to carry out their normal activities.

The CP explained that the new restriction on movement was based on credible intelligence available to the FCT Police Command.

“The criminals plan to explore the previously announced absence of restriction of movement to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the Area Council Elections.

“Consequently, the FCT police found it necessary to restrict all movement from 8am to 3pm on Saturday February 12,” he said.

On Sunday, he said the movement restriction would allow eligible voters to exercise their civil liability.

However, he said only those with essential services would be allowed.

He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious or abnormal event to the Police by calling 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653 and 08028940883.
