In a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of its personnel, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM, hosted a Christmas luncheon for the sick and wounded in action soldiers on hospital admission at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna on December 25, 2024.
The COAS who was represented by the Commander Corps of Artillery, Major General Markus Kangye, commended the sick and wounded in action officers soldiers in the hospital who turned out for their bravery and sacrifices in the line of duty. He also emphasized the importance of remaining focused, disciplined and loyal to fulfill their constitutional responsibilities.
Major General Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Operation FASAN YAMMA, expressed appreciation to all that attended the event, especially the sick and wounded in action soldiers. He noted that the Christmas celebration acknowledges the soldiers’ sacrifices, loyalty, and commitment to national service.
The annual event also demonstrates the Nigerian Army’s dedication to the wellbeing of its personnel as well as their families, also highlighting the importance of morale and welfare in maintaining an effective and combat-ready force.
The event featured the serving of sumptuous dishes, interaction with the sick and wounded in action soldiers and musical entertainment as well as comedy performances by some guests artists including a popular Nigerian musician “Daddy Showkey” who was in Kaduna for another event “Tribute to Our Troops Concert” organized by an NGO and the Defence Headquarters. The event climaxed with a group photographs.
