The Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, hosted a town hall meeting with critical stakeholders, including heads of security agencies, political leaders, religious leaders, representatives of the Hausa community in Enugu State, and members of the general public.
Security agencies in attendance included the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, Directorate of State Security, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) duly represented by the State Commandant Dr. Elijah Etim Willie, and the Nigerian Air Force.
The meeting focused on reviewing the impact of the state government’s policies and achievements while addressing key governance challenges. His Excellency Dr. Mbah highlighted the following major achievements:
*1. Road Infrastructure:* Construction of 90 major and feeder roads in Enugu metropolis, with plans to complete 120 additional roads by the end of 2025.
*2. Water Supply:* Increased daily water production from 20,000 to 120,000 liters, while addressing issues such as pipeline blockages, rusty pipes, and illegal structures on waterways.
*3. Transportation:* Acquisition of electric buses and vehicles to address transportation challenges, alongside plans for charging stations and parks for efficiency.
*4. Agriculture Support:* Distribution of fertilizers, farm machinery, insecticides, herbicides, cassava stems, and financial assistance to farmers from 260 wards across the state.
*5. Asphalt Industry:* Establishment of an asphalt industry to ensure affordable, high-quality raw materials for road construction.
*6. Healthcare Development:* Ongoing construction of primary healthcare centers in all 260 wards, with recruitment of 400 new staff as part of plans to hire 4,000 more.
*7. Education Advancement:* Establishment of smart schools in all 260 wards, equipped with AI-driven learning tools, high-speed internet, solar power, CCTV surveillance, synthetic playgrounds, and a daily meal program.
In his remarks, Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of these initiatives for improving the quality of life for Enugu State residents. He also outlined some of the challenges facing the state and reassured attendees of his administration’s efforts to collaborate with security agencies and stakeholders to find lasting solutions.
