Nigerian Navy Intercepts Six Suspects With Illegally Refined AGO In Bayelsa

The Nigerian Navy’s Operation Delta Sanity has successfully apprehended six suspects involved in the illegal transportation of refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in Otuokpoti, Bayelsa State.

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, the Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH intercepted six passenger boats carrying sacks and jerrycans filled with illegally refined AGO. The vessels were stopped during a routine operation in the region, known for its history of oil theft.

Following the arrest, the suspects were handed over to personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State for further investigation and processing.

This arrest marks another significant success in the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Navy to curb illegal oil refining and theft in the Niger Delta region. Over the years, the Navy has made numerous arrests, with some personnel tragically losing their lives in the line of duty. Despite the risks, the Navy remains resolute in its commitment to fighting oil theft and protecting Nigeria’s oil resources.
