Navy pledges zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption

The Nigerian Navy has declared zero tolerance for indiscipline and corrupt practices among its senior and junior officers, as well as ratings, particularly in anti-crude oil theft and anti-illegal bunkering patrols.

The Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base Escravos, Navy Captain I.F. Okoloagu, stated this while addressing naval personnel on Monday during the FOB Escravos Fourth Quarter Route March.

He stated, “The Chief of Naval Staff is committed to ensuring that personnel welfare remains a priority. As such, all personnel should remain resolute in the discharge of their duties.”

Reiterating the Navy’s stance, Captain Okoloagu reminded officers and ratings that “the Nigerian Navy upholds a strict zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and corruption.”

He urged the personnel to remain steadfast in their duties, particularly during anti-crude oil theft and anti-illegal bunkering patrols.

Expressing satisfaction with the turnout of personnel for the Fourth Quarter Route March, Captain Okoloagu explained that the exercise aimed to ensure that naval officers and ratings were physically fit for their assigned tasks.

He said, “The exercise also promotes comradeship among personnel and assures the public that the Navy is physically prepared to carry out its assignments effectively.”

The route march, which lasted approximately two and a half hours, involved a 10-kilometre brisk walk and was led by Captain Okoloagu alongside other senior and junior officers, as well as ratings.

It was gathered that the exercise aimed to enhance the physical fitness and mental well-being of naval personnel.
