A private firm, the Boing Luxury Estates, has donated three drones to the commands of the police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ondo and Ekiti states, to tackle hoodlums’ activities.
The three drones were specifically meant for Ekiti and Ondo police commands and the Ondo command of the NSCDC.
Presenting the security equipment to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Zone 17, Mr Abiodun Asabi, at the zonal headquarters in Akure, on Monday, the Managing Director of the firm, Mr Martins Akinseloyin, said crime-fighting should be everybody’s concern.
He said the gesture was out of the company’s magnanimity to give to society, as part of the programmes to mark its 10th anniversary.
He added that the firm saw the need to lend the government a helping hand in tackling insecurity, as it had become a major challenge in the country.
“We think of giving back to the society that has done so much for us, as we are marking our 10th anniversary.
“This is a way of helping the security agencies in the modern and recent ways of fighting crime. This is our Corporate Social Responsibility,” he said.
Akinseloyin lamented the alarming rate of the security situation in the country and called on all to play a role in supporting security agencies to fight the menace.
“It’s the use of technology and ICT that is helping the other countries in tackling insecurity. In this contemporary time, policing has gone beyond relying on manpower and AK-47s. We have enough AK-47 rifles but we cannot fight crime. So there is a need to devise modern technology as it’s the trend,” he stated.
The firm’s managing director pledged that the company was ready to train six personnel from police and NSCDC on logistics and required information on how the drones could be optimally utilized.
“I want to assure you that we are not just giving drones, we are giving much more than that. I’m advising Ekiti, Ondo police and NSCDC in Ondo to nominate two officers with basic ICT knowledge.
“In two days, they will be able to fly these drones, capture and interpret images, process images and other necessary things accordingly,” he stated
Asabi described the donation as a groundbreaking event on the security of lives and property in the zone.
“The donor has deemed it fit to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that our zeal for crime-fighting is encouraged and results are achieved.
“The two states in the zone are doing so much and we just have to deploy these drones to ensure that we are on top of security so that residents of these states are better protected,” he stated.
