Nigerian Army to receive ambush-protected vehicles, set for aviation takeoff

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has announced that the Nigerian Army will receive mine-resistant and ambush-protected vehicles in a few weeks.

Lagbaja, who said this in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, also announced that Nigerian Army Aviation will soon take off.

While addressing troops of the 23 Brigade in Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Yola, the Army chief emphasised that the acquisition of these special purpose vehicles and aviation development projects is evidence of the progress made by the Army.

He also acknowledged the huge support from President Bola Tinubu.

He said: “The current government, in its effort to reposition the Army is doing a lot. In the next few weeks, we are expecting mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to enhance the conduct of our operations nationwide.”

On the Nigerian Army Aviation being worked on, the COAS said the Army is seeing now how it can quickly get some of the assets on the ground before July this year.

He said much has recently been achieved in curbing insecurity in the South-South, South-East, and North Central, and that challenges still noticed in North West and part of North East are being aggressively addressed.

“With the support we are getting from Mr President, putting everything together, in the foreseeable future, I see the security situation across Nigeria improving tremendously,” he said.

The Army chief told the troops in Yola that he chose to visit them for a first-hand experience of how they live and how they conduct their operations, and that their challenges will be addressed without delay.

“I want to encourage you to be unrelenting in the discharge of your duties. Is it anti-banditry? Is it counter terrorism? Is it normal internal security operations? Whatever task you are given, you should take it as a duty that must be discharged creditably. The Army will address the challenges that confront you and your family,” he said.
