In an effort to protect students, teachers, and non-teaching staff as well as host communities from Boko Haram attacks, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDCD) organised safety training for school administrators and managers in Borno.

The Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Audi while flagging off the two-day training at International Conference Centre in Maiduguri on Wednesday, said in Borno state many schools have been destroyed while some students were kidnapped especially the Chibokgirls in 2014, some of them still in captivity.

According to him, the event marks the commencement of a series of training programmes lined up for Critical Stakeholders to support in driving the process of implementation of the National Plan on Safe Schools (NPSS) in Nigeria.

Audi who was represented by Assistant Commandant-General, Waziri Baba Goni, noted that the corps will provide maximum security by ensuring the safety of schools in the Borno state and the country in general.

“The NSCDC has organized this event to train our officers in order to effectively provide emergency response to security challenges in our educational institutions.

“This program is a nationwide program, but Borno state is highly affected by the insurgency, people are expecting us to give them security cover and that’s why we organized this program to show them that we are ready to give them security support anytime, anywhere in all the LGAs throughout the state.

“Through this approach, we are going build a robust education system that guarantees a secure and conducive learning environment for every child not only in Borno state but in the entire country.

“I, therefore, charge all course participants who have been carefully selected to be committed and dedicated to the success of this project,” he said.

Also speaking, the Borno Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Musa Faruk Boyi has stated that education is fundamental to national development and illiteracy is unacceptable in this 21st century, so civil defense has zero tolerance for attacks on schools.

“I want to assure you that, Borno state is the only place where we have more synergies among all the security outfits and we are saying that education will continue even in the year of conflict, We have to make sure that we mark the learning environment safer.

“Let’s put our hands together to make sure learning at all levels is safe. Teachers, school users and communities are also safe from attacks.

“Education cannot stop, see something and say something.”
