A security expect, Mr Oluseyi Obawale, on Saturday urged Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to licence more Private Guards Companies (PSCs) to intensify the fight against insecurity in the country.
Obawale, made the appeal in an interview with our correspondent in Lagos, while advising the corps on ways to use PGCs to intensify fight against insecurity in the country.
The security expert, who doubles as the Managing Director of Aloha X-Choice Security Ltd., spoke against the backdrop of the new operational licenses granted to 41 new PGCs on July 28.
According to him, there is need to licence more PGCs that could operate within national framework of contributing to peace and security of the nation.
He said the PGCs operating in the country currently are less than 1000 and operate mostly in the urban areas.
Obawale said the number of PGCs was also too small considering the geographical spread of the country and the menace of insecurity.
“There are some remote areas the government security agencies and their logistics may not able to access on time if there is disorderliness
“The NSCDC should licence more PGCs and attach the condition of readiness to operate in remote areas to such licensing
“In fact the NSCDC must check the PGCs readiness to operate in remote areas, among other conditions before the license is granted,” he said.
