A kaduna based Civil Society, Nigeria’s Good Governance Project
(NGGP) has criticized Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for describing
the arrest of bandits negotiator, Tukur Mamu by the Department of
State Service (DSS) as ‘’act of terrorism’’
According to NGGP, Gumi ordinarily ought to have been arrested with
Mamu, his aide on account of their open fraternity with bandits and
kidnappers threatening national security. ”its indeed laughable for a character like Gumi to accuse the government of terrorism, when in actual fact he wines and dines with terrorists almost on a daily basis under the pretext of patriotism and concern.”
‘’We want to seize this opportunity to inform the DSS of the need to
get Sheikh Gumi arrested over his relationship with Mamu and unguarded
utterances since Mamu was arrested. We are of the strong belief that
the DSS would be doing Nigerians lots of good if Gumi is invited to
give accounts of his friendship with Mamu and other bandits they claim
they are negotiating for or representing.
Who are their other parners and sponsors?
Who among the bandits has been collecting the ransom from Mamu? What
has been the sharing formula and do they (bandits) get the money out
of their hideouts and a lots more questions for both Gumi and Mamu to
explain to Nigerians.
We are of strong opinion that Gumi should not be allow to walking freely why his partner and aide is being held, the arrest of two of them would yield optimal results for the DSS.” the statement concluded.
