Civil Defence, Fire Service preach vigilance
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered nationwide deployment of officers, especially intelligence operatives, traffic officials and other operational assets for adequate security during and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
He also urged prioritisation of Eid prayer grounds, highways, recreational centres, financial institutions, particularly ATM and POS points, to safeguard religious festivities and financial transactions during the merry period.
Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated: “The IGP’s order to Strategic Police Managers at various levels is predicated on the need to maintain a more secure public and social space for the celebration. He further directs that all men deployed must be properly briefed and adequately supervised to ensure they maintain high level of proactiveness, visibility patrols and professionalism in the discharge of policing services to all and sundry.
“The IGP equally tasks all State Commissioners of Police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to ensure that crime and criminality are put in check and brought to their lowest ebb for a hitch-free celebration.”
“The IGP, on behalf of the Force Management Team, and the entire workforce of the Nigeria Police Force, felicitates with all Muslim faithful in the country, as they join the global Muslim Ummah to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
“He admonishes them to practicalise the values of empathy, faith, charity and other salient teachings of Ramadan in their relationship with other members of the society.
LIKEWISE, Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has strengthened security around critical national assets and Infrastructure during the festive period.
In a statement, issued by the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Olusola Odumosu, at the weekend, Audi ordered all officers to on red alert to neutralise criminal elements during the festivities and beyond.
He noted: “The time to be extra vigilant and more security conscious is now, considering the current security situation in the country, which calls for concerted efforts and adequate preparation against sudden attacks on innocent citizens and critical national assets and infrastructure.”
According to him, the situation in the country calls for a robust synergy and collaborations among relevant security agencies to achieve a common goal of securing the nation effectively.
ALSO, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Abdulganiyu Jaji, yesterday, admonished Nigerians to shun acts that could infernos during and after the celebrative period.
In a goodwill to Muslims for a successful Ramadan fast, the FFS boss said being fire safety-conscious not only ensures a harmonious celebration, but also sees to the protection of lives and properties, besides preventing far-reaching impacts of economic losses.
He said: “I appeal to all Nigerians to put in place safety measures such as provision of fire extinguishers, fire blankets, smoke detectors et cetera, in their homes, and ensure electrical appliances are switched off when leaving home so as to prevent incidents.”
Jaji charged personnel to be responsive to emergencies during the festivities and beyond.
