The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kaduna Command Cooperative Society, says it will embark on gas plant business to generate more revenues for its members.

The President NSCDC Cooperative Society, Kaduna command, ASC I Sunday Haruna, said this during its Annual General meeting on Wednesday in Kaduna.

Haruna said the management of the society collectively agreed to embark on a Gas Plant business.

According to him, after taking a look at outside business opportunities, the society finally resolved to embark on a Gas Plant project, subject to approval by the congress.

Haruna said the management had concluded to start the process of introducing an accounting software as agreed by the congress in the last Annual General Meeting (AGM).

He said the management believed that the software would help in curtailing over deductions, guarantee accurate records and reduce chances of assets depletion in the society.

He said to achieve this, a proposal was made and it was decided that each member should contribute not less than N1,500 only.

He stated that the software was designed in such a way that members would receive monthly alerts of deductions and make possible adjustments before finally sending it to national headquarters for implementation.

“It will enable members to also know their financial status in the society without necessarily visiting the society’s office complex.

On the success recorded in 2021, Haruna said the society in 2021, received 114 new members, making the total membership strength 866 as at Dec. 31, 2021.

He said there were renewed commitments from members in stepping up their monthly contributions to meet the required 5 per cent provision of the bye-law which is highly commendable.

“We want to sincerely use this medium to re-emphasise and call on those who are still contributing below the stipulated 5 per cent to step up their contributions.h

“This will go a long way in boosting the capital base of the society and guarantee more investment opportunities as well as meeting the yearnings and aspirations of members,” he said.

Haruna said after receiving the approval of the congress, the management was able to close the gap of loan deficits in the society through a productive collaboration with Stanbic IBTC bank, which granted a facility worth N500 million to the society and out of which N230 million had been disbursed to members who applied and were qualified at different levels and capacity.

“This actually reduced pressure on the society and also provided an opportunity for recouping and generating more income into the society,” he said.

Haruna said the opportunity is still open to those who would want to access the facility.

He pledged to always remain focused and steadfast in working to strengthen and lift the society to a greater height.

In his remarks, the Commandant, NSCDC, Mr. Godwin Miebi, lauded the management of the society for giving good account for the 2021 financial year.

Miebi said saving for the future is a great relief to families.

He encourage non-members to join the society to enjoy dividends.
