The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, has visited the scene of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
Bandits, already declared terrorists, used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to stop the train Monday night.
They then shot sporadically, killing an unspecified number of persons and injuring many.
Yahaya was accompanied by some principal staff officers of the Army Headquarters and the General Officer Commanding 1 Division.
He assessed the security situation around the general area, inspected the attacked train and the rail track to evaluate the degree of damage.
The COAS ordered the troops and other security agencies to intensify their search and rescue operations to ensure kidnapped victims are rescued unconditionally.
Yahaya assured Nigerians that troops will be undeterred and vehement in the fight against banditry and other forms of criminality.
He appealed to members of the surrounding communities and elsewhere to avail troops with credible information to enhance their operations across the country.
