The Grassroots Youth Coalition On Peace and Security, a non governmental body has advocated for the government of Nigeria steps on how to achieve accelerated peace and security among the youths, aligning with the resolution 2250 of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) thematic resolution dealing extensively with youth in issues related to peace and and security entitled “Maintenance of International Peace and Security” which is is a reference to Chapter 7 Article 39 in the UN Charter.
The NGO working in collaboration with The World Community Foundation and Centre for Peace, Democracy and Development (UMASS) Boston urged the Nigerian government as a matter of urgency among other things create Youth, Peace and Security intervention fund that can be deployed to increase participation and engagement of youth in peace building and conflict management processes at all levels in line with UNSC Resolution 2250. This action according to the NGO would provide predictable source of finance for implementation of Youth, Peace and Security.
Additionally, the NGO in a statement also demanded from the Nigerian Government the establishment and empowerment of institutional arrangement for effective coordination and mobilization of stakeholders to support the development process of State Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security in line with UNSC Resolution 2250.
