A combined team of security operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies in Ebonyi State on Tuesday repelled gunmen who invaded the Ndufu-Achara community in Ikwo local government area.
It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the community in their numbers in the morning.
They were said to have been heavily armed with AK-47 rifles wearing only pants and boxers shorts.
Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ebonyi State Command, Mr. Terrumun Gbue, stated these in Abakaliki, capital of the state.
He spoke when he received a team from the Nigeria Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution led by Mrs Lady Achanya.
He noted that no causality was recorded in the shootout between the gunmen and the security agents who successfully repelled the gunmen.
He said: “We recorded similar sporadic shooting last two days from these unknown gunmen and today again this morning they came but they were repelled by a combined armed team of Police, Civil Defense and Soldiers.
“The unknown gunmen as we were told this morning wore only pants and boxers when they invaded the Ndufu-Achara community in Ikwo. They were heavily armed and were shooting and shouting ‘we don’t want Ebubeagu’ This is not the first time they attacked the community with some excuse,” he explained.
The leader of the team Mrs. Achanya said they were in the State for Peace education especially in those areas where there are conflicts.
