The Commandant-General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Abubakar Ahmed Audi, has disclosed that over N527 billion was generated as revenue for the government this year, while about 79 illegal refineries were destroyed by his men.
In his address at the opening of the 3rd Commandant-General conference at the headquarters of the NSCDC in Abuja, Dr Audi said 503 people were also arrested in connection with various criminal acts.
Audi explained that the Corps, in collaboration with other sister security agencies, was able to prevent attacks on a number of national critical infrastructures, while some of its personnel paid the supreme price in the process.
He said considering the spate of attacks on the country Correctional Centres across the country, the Corps would evolve a new strategy with Nigeria Correctional Service to secure and protect Correctional Centres from attacks by gunmen.
