THE IMPRESSIVE COMPENDIUM OF ACHIEVEMENTS OF FIRST 100 DAYS OF COMMANDANT SOTIYO IGBALAWOLE EMMANUEL AS THE OSUN STATE COMMANDANT OF THE NIGERIA SECURITY AND CIVIL DFENCE CORPS (NSCDC) (PART 1)

Commandant Sotiyo Igbalawole’s first 100 days in office as the Osun State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, have been marked by remarkable achievements for the Osun Command of the NSCDC.

Commandant Igbalawole kick-started his administration by prioritizing capacity-building training for personnel on emergency response and the protection of Osun State residents.

The Disaster Unit of the Corps organized a well-attended one-day training session on the use of fire extinguishers. Additionally, the Command partnered with the World Institute for Peace to host a two-day capacity-building and retraining program on peace-building and conflict management at the State Command Headquarters, Osogbo, from December 4–5, 2024.

In the area of mining, Commandant Igbalawole’s leadership has significantly reduced illegal mining activities, with frequent arrests conducted almost daily.

On November 8, five suspects were apprehended for violating the Minerals and Mining Act 2007 by engaging in illegal mining in Akad, Ilesa West Local Government Area. Furthermore, on January 21, 2025, Commandant Igbalawole led a team of operatives to the Sambisa area in Kajola, Osun State, where they destroyed a massive illegal mining site and apprehended Abe Anu, who was allegedly involved in illegal mining operations at the site.

The Osun NSCDC, under the able leadership of Commandant Igbalawole, has organized a one-day Strategic Proposal Plan (SSP) town hall meeting on Licensed and Registered Miners/Artisans Regulatory Compliance and Security Implications in Osun State as part of its efforts to curb the activities of illegal miners and reintegrate artisans into the mining industry, with a view to boosting revenue from mining.
This initiative has already begun yielding positive results for the government in terms of revenue generation in the mining sector within the state.
