In a move to ensure public safety and security during the 2025 Eid el-Fitr celebration marking the end of Ramadan, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Augustine Padonu, has directed the deployment of 1,500 personnel across Oyo State, as ordered by the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Samuel Opebiyi, stated in a statement that the Commandant, who gave the directive on Friday, has mandated all Area Commands and Divisions within the state to implement a comprehensive security plan.
“The primary objective is to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure, including all prayer grounds, motor parks, markets, high-traffic areas, recreation centres, mosques, road intersections, and other public places.
“This initiative aims to prevent crime and maintain public order during the festive period,” the PRO stated.
In addition, he said that specialised units had been mobilised to bolster emergency response capabilities.
The Disaster Management Unit, Counter-Terrorist Unit, Agro-Rangers, and the Anti-Vandalism Unit had also been assigned to carry out targeted operations to address any potential security threats.
Opebiyi further stated that NSCDC personnel would also be collaborating with other security agencies to ensure a unified and robust security response.
In his comment, Commandant Padonu said: “Our commitment is to provide a secure environment for all residents and visitors during this important festive period.
“We urge the public to cooperate with our personnel and remain vigilant. This joint effort with other security agencies is crucial in ensuring that the celebrations proceed without any disruptions.”
