The Nigerian Army’s payroll transactions for 2024 amounted to a staggering N139.1bn, according to data from a portal documenting government expenditures, Govspend.
The transactions, recorded between February and October 2024, cover salary payments for the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Army University Biu and were paid from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System to the service.
An analysis of the data by Sunday PUNCH revealed that the monthly payments ranged from N11.4bn to N20.5bn for army personnel, while the university received amounts between N5.5m and N181m per month.
The highest recorded transaction was in October, when the Nigerian Army received N20.57 billion, while the lowest monthly disbursement occurred in July, totaling N11.43 billion.
In February, the army’s salary transactions amounted to N12.14bn, with the Nigerian Army University, Biu receiving N145.7m.
March saw a similar pattern, with N12.12bn allocated to army personnel and N176.6m to the university.
April’s payments totaled N12.1bn, while in May, the army received N12.08bn, and the university was allocated N201.3m. In June, payments reached N12.05bn, with N213.3m sent to the university.
The army’s salary transactions in July and August were N11.97bn and N12.54bn, respectively, while the university received N188.4m and N189.9m.
September recorded a significant increase, with N18.49bn allocated to salaries and N213m to the university.
Similarly, October witnessed the highest salary payment of the year, totaling N21.59bn, with the Nigerian Army University Biu receiving N218.6m.
