It took ransom of N2.5 million, cigarettes, milk to be delivered to kidnappers in Itapaji-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government of Ekiti State last Tuesday for eight abducted people to regain their freedom. a source disclosed to People’s Security Monitor Friday night.
Sources explain how the armed abductors last Tuesday had besieged a house located in the town around 9.30pm and shot sporadically into the air before ferrying away eight occupants of the house.
Eye witness accounts disclosed that the gunshots which lasted for about one hour were said to have terrified residents of the community who scampered for safety.
Police sources told PSM that the captives were let off the hook of their abductors around 9.30pm on Tuesday in a forest after the kidnappers had collected the money and other pacifying items..
“They were released on Thursday night. The kidnappers collected a sum of N2.5 million, a pack of cigarettes and a pack of milk before they were allowed to go.
“You can see the situation of things in our state and the audacity of the bandits to be collecting food items and other materials. Only God can save us here,” the source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the release of the abductees but denied knowledge of payment of ransom.
