Ahead of Christmas celebrations, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Zamfara State has deployed 550 personnel to worshipping centres to maintain peace and order in the state.
Addressing newsmen at the command headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, the NSCDC Commandant, Sani Mustafa, disclosed that the personnel were deployed across the 14 local government areas in the state.
“I wish to use this medium to update the general public that in view of the forthcoming Christmas celebration, the command has already deployed five hundred and fifty (550) personnel in order to maintain peace and order across the fourteen (14) local government areas of the state and worship centres,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the command has arrested 30-year-old Mohammed Dauda Ismail and recovered a stolen car, a Samsung Galaxy A55 5G phone, and seven thousand dollars (7000 USD) suspected to be counterfeit in the state.
Parading the suspect, Commandant Sani Mustafa said the suspect, Muhammad Dauda Ismail, was arrested in connection with a case of theft and dishonesty.
“A victim of theft, Mr Alkasim Muhammad Kabir (33), an origin of Kano, on Thursday, 12th December 2024, at around 1530 hrs, reported a missing Mercedes-Benz C300 with registration no. DAL68HK Kano and two (2) phones (Samsung Galaxy A55 5G & iPhone 12) suspected to be stolen.”
“Prior to the arrest, tracking revealed a number of locations the culprit transited through before the tracker was displaced and assumed lost, notably Dayi-Malumfashi-Futua en route to Zamfara State from Kano State,” he explained.
“Subject to the advertisement on social media and intelligent reports to the command, the command swiftly identified the situation and apprehended the suspect in Gusau on Sunday, 15th December 2024, at around 1130 hrs along Sokoto bypass road in a restaurant close to Masjid Umar Bin Khattab (Masallacin Kanoma).”
According to him, the suspect, Muhammad Dauda Ismail, 30 years old and originally from Dala LGA, Kano State, was arrested in possession of the stolen car (Mercedes C300), a phone (Samsung Galaxy A55 5G), and hard currency amounting to seven thousand dollars (7000 USD) suspected to be counterfeit by the Intelligence & Investigations Department of NSCDC.
He said the suspect confessed to being in possession of the items through deceit, as he left the owner’s residence to refill gas (LNG) at a gas plant in Kano but absconded.
He further explained that the suspect attempted to sell the car and phones in his possession but failed due to a lack of transparency and car particulars while he sold the iPhone 12.
“Tracking confirmed the phone is in Lokoja, Kogi State, and contacts are in place to retrieve it as the buyer has agreed to return it to the rightful owner,” he said.
