NSCDC Apprehends Five Suspects In Abuja With Truckload Of Stolen Goods

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dealt a significant blow to vandalism in Abuja, arresting five suspects with a truckload of stolen items.

The suspects were apprehended on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Dei Dei U-turn by Mopol barracks, after initially resisting arrest and speeding off from the Aso Radio Katampe axis.

According to Dr. Olusola Odumosu, FCT Commandant of NSCDC, investigations revealed that the suspects were coming from Gitata junction in Nasarawa state and were heading to an iron melting company situated at Sabon wuse, Kaduna Road, Niger State.

He said; “We are not taking it lightly with those who have chosen to sabotage the good efforts and intentions of the government to give meaningful life to the residents of the FCT.

“We have a renewed vigour to fulfil our mandate of protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, we are not resting on our oars untill we rid the capital city of these miscreants”.

He disclosed that items ranging from drainage covers, Iron pipe protection for bridge shoulders, communication mast accessories, rolls of stainless steel pipe clamps, angle bar from public water tanks and scaffold pipes and clips were recovered.

“Other items recovered from the suspects included manhole covers, electricity aluminium conductors, wire mesh, Armoured Aluminum conductors, Iron steel section -U, Angle and I section, Rice Milling Machine Iron, Welding wires , Binding Wires, Barb Wires, Vandalized Motorcycle parts, vandalized Vehicle parts and Household Utensils/ properties suspected to have been stolen.

“The suspects are Aminu Yusuf, 25 years, Male, from Bebeji LGA, Kano State; Saminu Yusuf, 20 years male, from Bebeji LGA, Kano State; Adamu Sani, 20 years male from Bebeji LGA, Kano State; Suleiman Yusuf, 20 years male from Bebeji LGA, Kano State; and Usman Jalo, 27 years male, from Keffi LGA, Niger State.

Dr. Odumosu, emphasized the corps’ dedication to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure. “We are not taking it lightly with those who have chosen to sabotage the good efforts and intentions of the government,” he stated.

“We want to state clearly that FCT is a no go area for vandals, scavengers and all the hoodlums sleeping under the bridges in the city and coming out at night to vandalize government property and attacking innocent commuters and residents”, he added.

The NSCDC has renewed its vigor to fulfill its mandate, aiming to rid the capital city of vandals and miscreants.
