The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Army, Honourable Aminu Balele has led members of the committee to extend their heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army (NA) following the passing of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja Chief of Army Staff, whose demise occurred on Tuesday, 5 November 2024 after a brief illness.
The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, received the committee at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, today, Friday 8 October 2024.
In a heavy hearted remark, Hon Balele lauded Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s selfless service to the nation, acknowledging his tireless and selfless efforts in combating security challenges in the country and promoting national security.
The Committee Chairman recognized the late COAS’ resolute commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, assuring support for the continuity of his legacies. The committee encouraged the Acting COAS to continue striving for excellence, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the NA to greater heights.
The lawmakers pledged support to the family of the late COAS and the NA under the leadership of Acting COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, as it continues to strive to restore peace and security in troubled parts of the country.
Responding, the Acting COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, described the late COAS as a rare gem who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria and humanity. The acting COAS highlighted the modest achievements of the late Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, noting that the NA will eternally celebrate his legacies.
In the same vein, the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma has paid tributes to the late COAS at the Army Headquarters. Governor Uzodinma while commiserating with the NA, described Gen Lagbaja as a military leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the NA’s response to security challenges.The Governor expressed optimism that the family he left behind and the Armed Forces would find solace in the memories of his remarkable life and service.
