The Delta State NSCDC Boss CC Mathew Sunday Ovye rejoice with the 2024 promoted senior officers in a colourful decoration ceremony at the Command Headquarters, Asaba Delta State. He reminded the newly promoted senior officers that promotion brings greater responsibilities. Urging them to justify their new rank by displaying dedication, effective service, efficiency in fulfilling the mandate of NSCDC and mentor their subordinates. They should lead positively and contribute to building a stronger service. He gave this charge in a keynote address delivered at the Command Headquarters Asaba, Delta State. He maintained that the Corps which is part of Nigeria’s security architecture, is specifically tasked with protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) against vandalism, regulating Private Guard Companies, participating in disaster management, and providing other support services. He encouraged officers to carry out their duties in close synergy with sister agencies.
The Commandant reiterated that promotion is not only an acknowledgment of hard work but also a call to uphold a higher standard of leadership and to lead by example. He emphasized that the new rank should be a guiding light for the junior ones. That they should be exemplary representatives of the Corps, demonstrating commitment and professionalism in every duty they undertake.
Commandant Matthew extended his heartfelt gratitude to Almighty God for bestowing upon us a diligent, tactful, and exceptional Commandant General, whose unwavering commitment to addressing the nation’s security challenges and prioritizing the welfare and career advancement of Corps members has greatly inspired officers to carry out their duties with renewed zeal and dedication.
Since Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR, assumed leadership of NSCDC in 2021, the Corps has experienced tremendous progress, particularly in the area of consistent and timely promotions—a true testament to the exemplary leadership he has instituted. The 2024 senior promotion exercise saw over nine thousand (9000) senior officers across the country ascend to their next ranks, a historic achievement for the Corps. Here in Delta State Command, the command proudly celebrate the elevation of over one hundred seventy (170) senior officers.
He further encouraged officers of the Command to rigorously pursue and implement the agency’s mandate as directed by the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Also, he call on all personnel to enhance surveillance and actionable intelligence, as well as develop counter-revolutionary strategies to effectively confront any adversary.
Quoting the Commandant General, “promotion in service is awarded based on merit and availability of vacancies”. Let this serve as a reminder to Officers to consistently perform at their best, knowing that every achievement is recognized and rewarded.
In closing, he extend his profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for their dedication to improving the welfare of officers. Also, he expressed his sincere thanks to the Delta State Government for creating an enabling environment for the Corps to carry out its mandate, particularly in the area of logistics support.
He pledged to remain committed to serving Delta State and promise to remain steadfast to the Corps’ mandate, serving with loyalty and patriotism for the security and progress of the nation.
