The Kano state government, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf administration is all set to build a safe school coordinating centre at the Kano state command of the NSCDC. Kano State commissioner of education, Honorable Umar Haruna Doguwa made the disclosure during the flagg off of a 1-day sensitization programme for safe school project implementation, themed “Understanding the basis of School Security”.
The honorable commissioner of education, acknowledged and appreciated the commitment and seriousness of civil defence in the state in the implementation of the noble initiative which is aimed at providing the much needed safety and security within and outside schools and educational institutions for improved teaching and learning in the state. Honorable Haruna Doguwa further extolled the invaluable contribution security agencies in the state have been offering, much to his likes as the commissioner opined, collaboration and synergy is what has always kept Kano safe and peaceful.
The executive Governor of Kano, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf was represented in the event by the Kano state Commissioner of Internal Security and Special Services, Major General M I Idris rtd. The retired general on behalf of the executive Governor expressed happiness with the big role the NSCDC plays in the security architecture of the state and the country at large.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the state Commandant of the Corps, Commandant Mohammed Lawal Falala, fcna said the safe schools project is a program focused on enhancing the safety and security of schools in our dear state and the country. This was according to Commandant Falala, due to the educational institutions security threats from insurgents, bandits and kidnappers.
The state Commandant further extended his sincere appreciation to the Kano state government for its support to the safe schools initiative as well as its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the good people of Kano state.
The one day enlightenment and sensitization programme witnessed four paper presentations, first from the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC), delivered by the Abuja Center’s Commander, ACG Hameed Abodunrin PhD which discussed the overview of the NSSRCC and the Center’s expectation. The remaining three papers were presented from resource persons from the Nigerian Army, 3 brigade, bukavo barracks Kano, Nigerian Police Force and the Department of state Service, Kano State Commands.
The NSCDC’s zonal commander, zone N, Zonal command, ACG Haruna Bala Zurmi delivered a resounding vote of thanks to round up the session.
The program had over 250 participants drawn from public and private schools (teachers/students), community and traditional rulers, Council of principals, Nigeria Union of teachers among others. There’s also in attendance, management staff of the Corps, Kano State Command, Area Commanders, divisional officers as well as safe school desk officers.
