The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ebonyi State Command Dr Elijah Etim Willie says his command is up in arms to square up with petroleum markers who unilaterally adjust their meters against the backdrop of unpredictable pump price in the country.
He spoke while responding to the request made to him by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ebonyi State chapter during a courtesy visit. The youths had solicited his support to halt the trend of meter adjustments in the petroleum industry.
Commandant Willie assured them, not only of his support but also his willingness to take up the fight as it fell squarely within the core mandate of NSCDC.
He decried the sharp practices in the industry as great disservice to humanity. “I’m going to checkmate meter pump adjustments in the State”, he enthused
Commandant Willie equally used the opportunity to commend the youths for their proactive measures that shunned the recent nationwide protests against hardship in the country as it turned out being counterproductive for the protesters. “Most of them are now in detention even as lives and property were destroyed where the protests held”.
The Security boss charged the youths to be supportive of the government and liase with the State Governor to secure adequate employment opportunities for indigenous Ebonyi people during forth coming recruitment exercise.
He lamented that the shortage of manpower in the state’s command was glaring. He attributed it mainly to the proclivity of Ebonyi State’s indegines unwillingness to stay behind to work for their state, describing this as unpatriotic.
According to him, some of them immediately after training will be jostling for transfers outside Ebonyi thereby relegating the state to the least manpower populated status in the country.
The security boss also frowned at a recent situation whereby all intakes into the corps from the state were drawn from a single local government area
