KANO NEMA BOSS VISITS JIGAWA NSCDC COMMANDANT AHEAD OF A TWO-DAY TRAINING EXERCISE

In a bid to strengthen collaboration on disaster management and emergency response, the Coordinator Kano Territorial Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) paid a courtesy visit to the Jigawa State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday the 25th September, 2024 as part of the activity to commence a two days training exercise organised by his office on request by the State Command.

The delegation, led by Dr. Nura Abdullahi, Territorial Coordinator of NEMA Kano Office, was warmly welcomed by the NSCDC Jigawa State Commandant, Muhammad Danjuma, at the Command headquarters in Dutse. The visit focused on reinforcing existing partnerships between the two agencies, particularly in the areas of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

During the meeting, Dr. Abdullahi highlighted the crucial role of inter-agency cooperation in mitigating the effects of natural and human-induced disasters, noting that the collaboration between NEMA and NSCDC has always been key to timely and effective disaster responses in Jigawa State. He stressed the need for continued partnership in areas such as training, joint emergency simulations, and public sensitization on disaster risk reduction.

“The importance of synergy between NEMA and NSCDC cannot be overstated. Together, we have a greater capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies that affect the lives and property of the people in Jigawa State,” Dr. Abdullahi said.

Commandant Danjuma, in his response, expressed appreciation for NEMA’s visit and their continuous efforts in disaster management across the state. He commended NEMA for its proactive role in addressing emergency situations such as flooding, drought, and other hazards that have significantly impacted communities in Jigawa. The Commandant reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to providing security and operational support in all disaster management efforts.

The meeting also explored opportunities for joint capacity-building programs for personnel, enhanced communication strategies, and conduct of two days training on disaster management and extrication to the NSCDC personnel aimed at educating the personnel of some security agency on disaster preparedness and response.

Both agencies pledged to work closely in ensuring that Jigawa State is better equipped to handle emergencies, reduce the impact of disasters on vulnerable communities, and protect lives and property.
