The rector of Federal Polytechnic Idah, Dr. Yahaya Usman, has appealed to the Nigerian Navy to collaborate with the institution’s management on security matters by addressing criminal elements around the Polytechnic community.
Dr. Yahaya Usman made this appeal while receiving Commander Nelson Oyagha, Commanding Officer of the Naval Outpost Idah, Naval Base, in his office.
He commended the officers of the Naval Outpost Idah for their professionalism in maintaining peace within Idah and its environs.
Dr. Usman called on them to work with the Polytechnic authorities to address criminal elements around the Polytechnic community and to assist in enforcing the recent ban on the practice of “sign out” by graduating students, which is often associated with “Yahoo boys” spraying money, typically accompanied by security personnel.
Commander Oyagha, in response, pledged the Navy’s support to the Polytechnic in addressing security challenges, noting that intelligence gathering would enhance their operations.
He also sought collaboration on a flood awareness campaign during the rainy season to safeguard lives and property, as water levels are rising daily. He highlighted that flood management is one of the core mandates of the Nigerian Navy.
Members of the Top Management Committee (TMC) of the Polytechnic were present. The Commanding Officer was accompanied by senior officers, including LT. P.I. Ogbe, LT. Y.B. Usman, and SLT. D.S. Maikudi, among others.
