The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence has announced the death of one Sulaiman Potiskum. The 55-year-old was reported to have died in a river located at Gada, Bakin Kogi, Hadejia Local Government area of Jigawa State.
According to a statement from the State NSCDC Command, “the tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 7th day of September 2024 at about 0945hrs when Sulaiman attempted to take his bath along the riverbank but was overwhelmed by the flooded water.
Despite the swift response from the NSCDC search and rescue operatives and local divers, his life could not be saved as he was pronounced dead upon reaching the General Hospital Hadejia by a medical practitioner and his body was handed over to his relatives for proper burial according to Islamic rites.
”It may be recalled that recently, drowning incident has been on the rise and as such the Command warned against swimming in flooded rivers and ponds as they constitute threats to lives.” the statement added.
