Commandant General of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has exonerated his convoy from excessive speed and reckless driving on either Abuja roads or elsewhere.

Speaking with PEOPLES SECURITY MONITOR crew last weekend, Ahmed Audi explained that it was a matter of mistaken identity, because there is another NSCDC top officer that that drives in similar convoy that one could hardly differentiate from his own.

”Honestly, the issue of excessive speed and reckless driving couldn’t have occurred under my watch. l’m an ardent stickler to road traffic rules and regulations so much that you can hardly notice my convoy because l personally do not subscribe to use of siren, which l consider as a form of distraction to other road users.

”It was a matter of mistaken identity, because there is another NSCDC commandant whose convoy seems to look similar to mine, that was the convoy, members of the public wrongly assume to be mine, and the moment l got wind of his convoy’s reckless driving, l had to summon and reprimanded the erring officer in question.” Audi revealed.

According to Audi ”ln line with our cardinal responsibility, we are to ensure that peace and order is maintained in the Nigerian society and protect Nigerians, as well as get Nigerian civil population rescued in the event where there is emergency; not to be creating panic and harassing other road users.
