As part of the drive to enhancing Civil-Military relationship the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja has commissioned some newly completed Civil-military Cooperation projects in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State. The projects which were carried out under the COAS’ Special Intervention Projects were commissioned on Thursday 22nd August 2024. The projects include: renovated and newly constructed Blocks of Class Rooms with standard sewage facilities and a Solar Powered Borehole at Government Girls Day Secondary School Matazu.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony the COAS emphasized that the projects reflect the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving lives of the people in the communities where it operates. The COAS who was represented by the Acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army Brig Gen IA Ajose noted that the quick impact projects are designed to support communities of senior Nigerian Army officers who have risen through dedicated service to the rank of Major Generals. He further stated that the initiative would enhance the educational development of Matazu youths particularly the girl child by providing a secured and conducting learning environment.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs Maj Gen NC Ugbo who was represented by Brig Gen BS Keji maintained that the CIMIC projects being carried out by the Army are intended to complement existing government infrastructure and services. He expressed a deep appreciation to the COAS for approving the projects.
Earlier in his welcome remarks the project Executor Maj Gen UN Babanginda highlighted that the essence of the CIMIC projects was to improve the academic conditions of students and foster goodwill among the local populace. Gen Babangida who is the Provost Nigerian Army College of Education Ilorin, further urged the people of the community to ensure regular maintenance of the facilities as they make good use of them.
Some important dignitaries were present to grace the occasion they included; the Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Faruk Jobe, who represented the Governor of Katsina State and other top government officials, outgoing and incoming Commanders 17 Brigade Katsina Brigadier Generals OA Fadairo and BO Omopariola, traditional rulers amongst others.
