The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has emphasized the importance of Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition among personnel, in fostering Inter-Brigade cooperation, enhancing esprit de corps and bolstering security across Adamawa State and Nigeria at large. He made these remarks today, Thursday, 22 August 2024, while delivering his keynote address at the closing ceremony of the 3 Division Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition 2024, held at the 23 Brigade Physical Training and Obstacle Ground, Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Yola.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, the Governor lauded the military’s dedication to maintaining the relative peace currently enjoyed in Adamawa State. He assured the military and other security agencies of his continued support in not only preserving this peace but also in addressing potential future security challenges.
Governor Fintiri expressed his deep appreciation to the personnel of the 3 Division Nigerian Army, particularly the 23 Brigade, for their crucial role in stabilizing the state and achieving sustainable peace. He commended the participants for their exemplary teamwork, which contributed to the success of the competition.
In his closing remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar, highlighted the competition’s role in fostering sportsmanship, cooperation and teamwork among the participants. He noted that the competition had not only improved the participants’ fitness but also enhanced their operational capabilities.
Represented by the 3 Division Training Officer, Brigadier General Adiyu Aminu, Major General Abubakar urged participants to carry forward the valuable military traditions learned during the competition into their future operations, exercises, courses and careers.
The 3 Division Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition 2024, which began on Monday, 19 August 2024, saw participants from various formations under the 3 Division, including 6 Brigade Jalingo, 23 Brigade Yola, 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, 53 Signal Brigade Jos, and 3 Division Garrison Jos. The formations competed in events such as Tug of War, Combat Swimming, Map Reading and Day Navigation, Skills at Arms and Weapon Handling as well as Combat Race with Obstacle Crossing. At the end, 23 Brigade Yola emerged the champion formation, followed by 3 Division Garrison Jos in second place, while 6 Brigade Jalingo emerged the third. 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi settled for fourth and 53 Signal Brigade cling to fifth place.
The closing ceremony was also attended by the Security Adviser to the Adamawa State Governor, Brigadier General Bashir Mummuni (rtd), Commander 153 Nigerian Air Force Base Services Group, Air Commodore YA Katabiya, heads of other security agencies as well as members of NAOWA.
