The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a US-based businessman, Onyejekwe Izuchukwu, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in the Ikoyi area of Lagos. Izuchukwu, who had returned to Nigeria for business purposes, tragically lost his life on June 9, 2024.
According to sources, the 62-year-old businessman had been staying at the hotel in Ikoyi since June 6 while conducting his business activities in the country. On June 9, a cleaner entered his room and found him lying motionless on the floor. The hotel management was immediately informed, and they reported the case to the police.
The Assistant Chief Security Officer of the hotel stated that Izuchukwu was found dead in his hotel room. The police were called to the scene, and a doctor confirmed his death. The body was subsequently taken to a morgue in Ikeja for an autopsy.
Prior to his untimely demise, Izuchukwu had been the President of Bits and Drilling Tools, a division of Schlumberger, where he played a pivotal role in the development of innovative drilling technologies aimed at reducing costs and enhancing efficiency in the oil and gas industry.
The Lagos State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that an investigation into the case has commenced. The cause of Izuchukwu’s death is yet to be determined, and the autopsy will provide valuable information in this regard.
