The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has said it arrested five persons who were allegedly dealing in adulterated petroleum products in the state.
According to the corps, the suspects are Orofin Olorunjuwon, Enigbewo Sunday, Ayeyiwa Ilumaro, Owoyemi Ete and Okorisa Noah.
In a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Aidamenbor Daniel, the suspects were arrested by the joint operation of the NSCDC with a private security outfit, Tantita Security Services and the Nigeria Army.
The suspects were apprehended in Igbokoda, the headquarters of the Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The statement partly read, “Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in a joint operation with Tantita Security Services and Nigeria Army has apprehended five suspects.
“The suspects were arrested on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Igbokoda waterways of Ondo State with two large wooden boats filled with about 250,000 litres of adulterated petroleum products, three outboard boat engines and two pumping machines.
“The joint task force set the illegally acquired petroleum product ablaze on the high sea while the suspects and other exhibit are in custody for prosecution.”
The command expressed assurance that the joint operation and routine patrol of the waterways would be a continuous exercise to rid the state of economic saboteurs while the arrested suspects would be prosecuted according to the extant laws to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements.
