GOC 6 DIVISION ASSURES COLLABORATION WITH NSCDC

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army /Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has assured the newly appointed Zonal Commander of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of strengthened collaboration with 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA). The GOC gave the assurance today, 3 June 2024, when the Zonal Commander, NSCDC, Zone L, Assistant Commandant General (ACG), Ayila Taiwo Olowo paid him a familiarization visit at the Division’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt. 

In his remarks, Major  General Abdussalam emphasized the interconnectedness of the NA and NSCDC. He stressed the history of extensive collaboration between the two agencies in various aspects, such as personnel training, joint operations, and other security-related activities. 

Major General Abdussalam highlighted the existing synergy in the Niger Delta Region (NDR), reiterating the  commitment to synergize with the NSCDC and other security agencies to fulfill the overreaching objective of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja’s  command philosophy which is “To transform the NA into a well trained, equipped and highly motivated Force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”.

The GOC acknowledged the significance of synergy in intelligence sharing and joint operations with other agencies. He pledged continued support and cooperation with all security agencies in the NDR. He encouraged the newly appointed Zonal Commander to maintain positive relationships with other security agencies in the NDR. 

Earlier in his remarks, the Zonal Commander, Zone L, ACG Olowo, who oversees NSCDC Zone L, covering Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, and Rivers States stressed the importance of collaboration with the NA. He commended  the GOC for the harmonious working relationship with his organization and other security agencies, as well as the prompt response to security cooperation requests. This he said is highly commendable. 

ACG Olowo further  stated that he was at the Division essentially to familiarize himself with the GOC and urged for continued cooperation. The NSCDC shares similar mandates with the Division in safeguarding critical infrastructure and addressing national security concerns such as oil theft, kidnapping, bunkering, and other criminal activities in the NDR he said.

The Zonal Commander  emphasized the responsibility of military support in terms of intelligence sharing and joint operations on security-related issues.

Key moments at the event included the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of souvenir, group photographs, and light refreshment.
