PROTECTION OF SCHOOLS AND STUDENTS IS THE PRESERVATIONS CRITICAL NATIONAL ASSETS AND INFRASTRUCTURE- CC BARUNDE

The State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Comdt Alexander Bissa Barunde stated that the Corps is always ready to cooperate and collaborate government to enhance the safety of schools’ environment, staff, pupils and students. 

The State Commandant made the statement when he received the newly appointed Plateau State Safe Schools Coordinator, Mr Alex Ladan at the state headquarters in Jos. 

Comdt Barunde reiterated the need for adequate training for both personnel and staff of schools for comprehensive and effectiveness in safeguarding the Nigerian schools; primary, secondary and tertiary. 

He explained that securing schools and its inhabitants falls under one of the Corps’ core mandates of protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure of the country. 

“The Commandant General of NSCDC, Abubakar Ahmed Audi, PhD, mni, OFR does not treat the Safe School issues which is his brainchild with levity especially as the country’s future; students and children generally are critical to the survival of any nation and have directed all state commandants to take safe schools coordination seriously.

We will therefore collaborate and corporate with all stakeholders to reduce the threats to students and schools within our justification”, Barunde added. 

Speaking earlier, the Plateau State Coordinator of Safe Schools Mr Alex Ladan expressed the Plateau State Government’s commitment and readiness to collaborate with the NSCDC to curb the menace to students in the state. 

Mr Ladan said, the place of synergy in this wise can not be overemphasized as the state is poised to work hand in gloves with the Corps to bring to the barest minimum the threats schools in the state. 

He said, “The executive Governor, His Excellency Barr Caleb is not leaving any stone unturned just to make sure students are free from fear of kidnapping and banditry and our schools are made conducive for learning.

We can not succeed in our assigned without the expertise and collaboration of the NSCDC and this has informed our visit, to seek areas of synergy with the NSCDC”.
