The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno has performed the groundbreaking of the permanent State Command headquarters of NSCDC in the State and made generous donation to the actualisation of the project.
The ceremony was performed by Gov Umo Eno on the occasion of World Civil Defence Day Celebration and Passing out Parade of 34 new intakes in the presence of the Hon Minister, Ministry of Interior, Hon Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi.
Gov Umo Eno commended the contribution of NSCDC to the security architecture of the state especially in the area of securing critical infrastructure and emergency response, which he asserted is partly responsible for Akwa Ibom being adjudged as the most peaceful state in the country for two consecutive years.
The Executive Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency, Senator Akon Eyakenyi reviewed the parade mounted by the new intake and commended the beautiful display, while admonishing them to put their youthful energy to adding value to the service of their fatherland through the NSCDC. She felicitated with the Corps on the occasion of the celebration of World Civil Defence Day, describing the theme for 2024 as apt.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented by his Special Assistant on Communication, Engr Uwakmfon Michael also felicitated with the Corps on the World Civil Defence Day Celebration, enjoined the new intake to put all they have learnt at training school to use and commended the bold step taken to build a permanent and befitting State Headquarters for the Corps which he said will enhance productivity.
The Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed A Audi mni OFR, ably represented by the Deputy Commandant General, Technical Services, DCG Zakari I. Ningi expressed optimum appreciation to the government of Akwa Ibom State for the enormous support it has rendered to NSCDC in the state which has helped it record huge success especially in the fight against oil theft and vandalism. The CG hinted that the proposed Amphibious Training School to be sited in the state will commence as soon as approval is given, while highlighting the benefit it portends for Nsit UbiumLGA and Akwa Ibom State in general.
The Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Uwem Okoko and the Chief Launcher, Elder Ubong Obot both made generous donation towards the actualisation of the building project which is expected to beef up security in the area.
Highpoints of the occasion were the cutting of ICDO anniversary cake, and the foundation laying of the complex which will serve as a fortress.
Recognition plaques were presented to the Commandant General and the State Commandant, Engr. Eluwade Eluyemi for exemplary leadership by stakeholders in the downstream petroleum industry.
