The General Manager of Legacy FM Radio in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Godfrey Chikwere, says Civil Defence has taken over professionalism in it’s operation. Chikwere made this observation public in his office, on Wednesday, 31st January 2024 when he received in audience, the state Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ebonyi State Command, Dr Elijah Etim Willie.
He unveiled that he was used to knowing Army for professionalism in conduct but “now, Civil Defence has taken over!”
According to him “we’ve not found any civil Defender wanting in Ebonyi State.” The broadcast icon further described NSCDC as one unique security outfit with unequalled standard in the country.
He assured the Commandant of collaboration to achieve his mandate in the state especially in the area of publicizing his activities. “We’ll keep working together.”
The GM equally eulogized the personality of the Commandant, noting that his carriage, comportment, humility and visage portrayed him as a desideratum for the office.
The state Commandant had earlier appreciated the GM for granting him audience. He explained that he felt at home in the station, given his stint with media practice, adding that it was only the ignorant who would neglect the import of media in the society. “People do a lot but if the media doesn’t report it, you have done nothing. I’m here to work and whenever I have the (publicity) need, I want to call on you for assistance.
He added that Civil Defence is saddled with so much responsibilities that members of the public are often ignorant of. “We arrest, detain, investigate and prosecute offenders. We also handle civil matter. We can recover debts through alternative dispute resolution mechanism. We police mining. We protect c Citical National Asset and Infrastructure. We do quite a lot. We manage crisis and work with NEMA /SEMA to quell disaster. Our men are actively involved in All Joint Taskforce (JTF) operations across the country
I’ve come to help the security architecture and bring a new Vista into what we have been doing around here. I don’t support injustice!” he declared
