Akwa Ibom NSCDC Apprehends Six Suspects For Illegal Dealing In Petroleum Products, Impersonation

Akwa Ibom State Command of NSCDC has arrested 6 suspects for criminal conspiracy, illegal dealing in petroleum product and impersonation of security agency joint task force (JTF) under which guise they perpetrated illegalities in the petroleum industry in Akwa Ibom State.

The suspects were arrested along Calabar-Itu Highway on Monday, 29th January, 2024 by personnel of the Anti-vandal squad based on credible intelligence that a team of rogues were acting as joint task force (JTF) of a security agency and were escorting a truck conveying about 45,000 litres of Automative Gas Oil (AGO) popularly known as Diesel to an unknown destination without requisite documents.

The Anti-vandal team arrested the 6 suspects and impounded the MAC truck conveying the illegal products as well as a Toyota Camry that was used for escorting and clearing the way for the truck to pass through checkpoints without scrutiny.

The suspects who are currently undergoing Investigations at the NSCDC State Command headquarters are: *Abbas Ohis, Jubrin James, Aniefiok Okon, Maduka Ojukwu, Idorenyin Etim and Uche Ahechukwu* all males.

Briefing journalists at the Command headquarters in Uyo on Tuesday, 30th January, 2024, Commandant Eluwade Eluyemi stated that the command received intelligence of the illicit act and quickly deployed its personnel who intercepted the suspects along Calabar-Itu Highway by 0600hrs on the stated date.

The NSCDC boss warned perpetrators of illegalities in the downstream sector of the petroleum industry that the corps remains unflinching in executing the mandate of combating all acts of economic sabotage in the oil and gas industry in Akwa Ibom.

Investigations into the matter is ongoing to establish other variables and facts after which they will be charged to court to answer for their crimes.
