The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said that it has planned strategies to prevent crime, safeguard lives and foster a peaceful environment for all state residents in the new year.
The state Commandant, Dr Michael Akintayo Adaralewa made this known in a New Year message to the state residents, in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, DSC Sam Opebiyi.
Reiterating the command’s commitment to the safety and security of the residents, the Commandant promised to build on past successes with a revitalised focus and a comprehensive arsenal of strategies.
He noted that the command rose to the occasion on multiple fronts in 2023, with its proactive approach to crime prevention yielding notable results, including the apprehension of suspected criminals, disruption of criminal activities and recovery of stolen property.
He stated: “Our dedication to community policing fostered closer ties with residents, empowering them to become active participants in their security.
“Furthermore, our swift response to disasters and emergencies ensured the safety and well-being of countless individuals during challenging times.”
He enumerated a multi-pronged approach to bolster security across the state, including enhanced patrols, intelligence gathering, critical infrastructure, safeguarding schools and religious sites, peaceful conflict resolution and inter-agency collaboration, among others.
“We are proud of our achievements in 2023, but we are not resting on our oars. We are determined to make 2024 a more secure and peaceful year for the people of Oyo State,” he added.
The Commandant encouraged residents to actively participate in crime prevention efforts by reporting suspicious activities and partnering with the NSCDC to build a safer state for all.
“As we stand united in this pursuit of security, we acknowledge the vital role played by other security agencies, government bodies, and the public.
“We are committed to leaving no stone unturned in our quest to create a safe and secure environment for all residents of Oyo State.
“We are also committed to working with the people of Oyo State to create a safe and secure environment for everyone.
“We urge the public to cooperate with us and to report any suspicious activities or crimes to the NSCDC or other security agencies.
“We will continue to collaborate with other security agencies and the state government, under the leadership of the state Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, to ensure that no stone is left unturned in our quest to safeguard lives and property in the state,” Adaralewa said.
