The Security Committee headed by Hon Lawal Tanko has visited NSCDC Bauchi Command to farmilarise themselves with NSCDC Bauchi Command, its Commandant and his management team with a view to collaborating in the areas of providing security to the state and its good people being the lead agency in protection in the protection of Critical National Assets in the Country.
The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Bauchi State Command, Commandant Ilelaboye Waheed Oyejide reiterated the Command readiness to partner with the House of Assembly on issues that would move the State forward.
He assured the members that he would continue to do his best in ensuring the safety of the State at all times.
The visiting lawmakers also sought the cooperation of the members in the area of mines and steel development so as to get rid of illegal mining with a view to enhancing the revenue profile of the State.
The State Commandant Oyejide affirmed that the Corps is fully committed to bringing sanity and restoring the loss glory of the mining sector in the State.
In his address, the Chairman of the security committee assured the Commandant Oyejide of their total support in fighting illegal mining activity.
He stated that the nation loses huge revenue to activities of illegal mining and solicited the support of NSCDC to curb illegal mining activities in the State.
The Commandant stated that the fight against illegal mining is a collective one, and required the cooperation of all citizens.
“Most of this illegal mining is carried out by people without the required licence and most times those with licence don’t pay royalties to government. To this end, we are ready to promote transparency in the mining sector because if properly harnessed, it would act as a catalyst to grow the nation’s economy” he said.
The House of Assembly through the security Committee said it was optimistic that partnering with the NSCDC in the state would halt the illegal activities of mining across the State.
He described the refusal of some of the miners to pay royalties as economy sabotage, saying that the House will collaborate with the Corps to preserve the sources through which government generates revenue for the wellbeing of its citizenry.
