The Katsina State Police Command has commenced investigations into Sunday night terror attack in the Dan Musa Local Government Area of the state where the head of vigilance group was killed.
The terrorists had swooped on the community during Sunday night downpour and killed the vigilante leader identified as Mallam Nabanje.
The terrorists also set his house ablaze, shot two other persons and raped three women during the attack.
Residents said the terrorists were on a vengeance mission as they had earlier reportedly accused the late vigilante head of being responsible for the recent destruction of their camps in the community.
It was further learnt that the terrorists arrived in the community during the downpour and surrounded Nabanje’s house.
Nabanje reportedly initially escaped from the onslaught before they later found him, hiding beside a tree after he had exhausted the ammunition on him.
A resident said, “The hoodlums arrived in the community in large numbers and proceeded to the residence of our vigilante commander.
“They blocked all routes to prevent him from escaping. After a painstaking search, they found him under a tree where they engaged him in a gun duel until he ran out of ammunition and was rounded up when he sought refuge in a compound where he was butchered.”
The Katsina Police Command spokesman, Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed the incident.
Aliyu said an investigation had already commenced into the incident.
