The Kogi State Director General, Special Task Force on Illegal Smuggling of Firearms and Other Related Crimes Elder Friday Sani Makama has described the story of his arrest by DSS operatives as a ”blatant lie” , describing as a figment of imagination of his political detractors.
The social media including some mainstream media was awash with the news that the former Kogi lawmaker was arrested over alleged involvement in the assassination attempt of Social Democratic Party Governorship candidate in Kogi Alhaji Muri Ajaka.
Addressing journalists on Thursday, Makama said the news of his arrest was the handwork of mischief makers who want to destroy his reputation.
According to him, he is currently receiving training with the DSS to be better equipped in discharging the mandate given to him to stop the illegal smuggling of firearms into the state.
Makama explained that, since his appointment as DG Special Task Force on Illegal Smuggling of Fire Arms and Other Related Crimes, he has been receiving several threatening calls and messages from criminal conspirators within and outside the State.
He warned that anyone behind the importation of firearms into Kogi State will be brought to book no matter how highly connected in the Country.
“The rumors of my arrest do not come to me as a surprise. The DSS has a supervisory role both in the national and the State of the federation on illegal smuggling of firearms. The DSS has a lot of role in training and equipping me with the knowledge to be able to carry out this responsibility without bias.
“The nitty-gritty of the training is what I cannot disclose to the public, but be rest assured that, at the end of the training, whoever is involved in either sponsoring, or trading on illegal firearms, the current training I am undergoing will equip me to come after you”.
